100% Level 8
Written for able pupils in Year 9 at Secondary School and pupils studying at the ‘Higher’ GCSE tier in Years 10 and 11
Maths Starters 100% Level 8 is an extensive resource containing approximately *3 hours of questions very similar to the end of Key Stage 3 (ages 13-14) statutory tests. Furthermore, pupils in Years 10 and 11 studying for the Higher GCSE tier will also find the material useful.
Using Maths Starters 100% Level 8 will give your child further opportunities to familiarise themselves with typical level 8 test questions in terms of the wording, layout and diagrams. Answer books are also supplied so that you can precisely mark the questions to the same standard as actual test markers do; enabling you to have a complete over view of successful topics, and those areas which need further consolidation.
Which pupils sit the tests?
More commonly known as SATs, it is a statutory requirement for all Year 9 pupils in state education schools - England, Wales and Northern Ireland - to sit the tests. In addition, some private schools also choose to use the material, as they are a very thorough assessment.
Maths Starters 100% Level 8 has been written exclusively for able *Year 9 pupils who show particular talent in mathematics – and we do stress the material is certainly challenging (generally pupils in a “top maths set”). The questions are written to a standard very similar to actual tests, by a teacher who has many years teaching at both primary and secondary level. All questions are set at level 8 (the highest National Curriculum level).
What is included?
The skills and concepts of the Key Stage 3 maths curriculum is vast which is why there are 4 Tiers of entry. Maths Starters 100% Level 8 has been written for those pupils who will be entered for the highest tier (levels 6 – 8). If you are unsure which tier your child will be entered, speak to your teacher, or email help@maths-starters.com
Maths Starters 100% Level 8 include:
- Test questions. Approximately 3 hours of level 8 material (note: examination conditions. In a more relaxed environment the time may be significantly longer).
- Answer books. The books have been written and presented in a form similar to the actual mark books which test markers use. Reading the test booklet will give an insight into how quite complex questions are marked - which often credit correct methods despite an incorrect final answer.
- CD which includes all the above test material saved in a pdf file format. This means, you can easily view and print out the pages, provided your computer has a program which can read pdf files. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a popular program which is often used to read pdf files. If your computer does not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, you can download the program free from www.adobe.com.
- Can also be used with other age groups - for example, GCSE students (years 10 and 11) who will be entered for the Higher tier; please email help@maths-starters.com for further clarification.
